A five run second inning lifted Southmont past Western Boone 9-5 in the Class 2A Sectional No. 38 semi-final on Tuesday. With the bases juiced and a 1-0 lead, junior Hannah Thompson smashed a bases-clearing triple into the left-center gap to give the Mounties all the momentum, and they never looked back. Western Boone (8-16) continued to battle offensively and defensively, and plated three runs in the top of the seventh, but the rally wasn’t enough to mount a similar comeback to Monday night’s win as the Stars saw their season come to a close.
