Sonja Lee Williams, age 85, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was born November 30, 1937, in Lebanon, a daughter of the late Joseph Maurice and Esther Louise (Portis) Padgett.

On July 30, 1954, she was united in marriage to Ernest DeWayne Williams in Sheridan. Together they raised their four children outside of Thorntown, and for a few years, three of their grandchildren. They had shared 56 loving years of marriage before his passing on December 10, 2010.

Over the years, Sonja worked in various clerical positions. She was a sales associate at Montgomery Wards in Lebanon. Sonja retired from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management in the water department. She held memberships at Sugar Plain Friends Church in Thorntown and Beta Sigma Phi. Sonja was an active volunteer for organizations around the community such as Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Citizens Academy, State Emergency Management–Homeland Security Division, and the Crisis Line.

She enjoyed visiting with friends and playing euchre. Sonja loved family gatherings where she enjoyed capturing moments with photographs and was always the first to visit a family member when in need.

Sonja is survived by her daughters, Donna Spencer of Lebanon and Catherine (Ken) Morrison of Lafayette; son, Kenneth (Phyllis) Williams of Findlay, Ohio; grandchildren, Joshua Spencer, Denise (Micheal) Tilstra, Kyle (Amanda) Morrison, Lauren (Adam) Warnement, Andrew (fiancée, Kate Hachey) Williams, Dennis (Karissa) Williams, Thomas (Ashley Stephens) Williams, and Matthew (Alia) Williams; great grandchildren: Catlyne (fiancé, Brad DeBildt) Spencer, Joah, Canden, Andrik, and Mylah Morrison, Aleiah, Nevaeh, and Gabriella Warnement, Jerrod (Suzanna) Williams, Leslie, Damion, Deakin, Bayley, and Jensen Williams, Jordan and Adyson Williams, Cooper, Harper, and Ryker Williams, Jakob Cox, and Tyler Williams; and one great-great grandson, Daniel Williams. Also surviving are siblings, Sue Spencer of Crawfordsville, John (Donna) Padgett of Sheridan, Wanda Kincaid of Indianapolis, Jeffrey Padgett of Sheridan, and Jane Padgett of Cicero.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sonja was preceded in death by a son, Daniel R. Williams, Sr.; four grandchildren, Ernest Spencer, Rachel Spencer, Jeremiah Spencer, and Daniel R. Williams, Jr.; one great grandchild, Ryleigh Williams; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Dale Beam; and brother-in-law, James Spencer.

Visitation is planned from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, February 20th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
