Local school districts took different approaches to the National School Walkout Day than many around the country. While other students marched out of their classrooms in protest over gun violence, Lebanon and Western Boone school leaders organized alternative activities for students here. Nationally, the walkout was organized by Women’s March Youth EMPOWER, the organization that also organizes the women’s march. According to the organization’s web page, the event was being held “to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods.” More details found in The Lebanon Reporter.
