Steven Neil Whipkey, 54, of Lebanon, IN passed away peacefully on April 21st at Witham Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Feb 6th, 1969, in Milwaukee, WI, Steve was the son of Dan and the late Dolores Whipkey. He attended Countryside High School in Clearwater, FL before graduating from University of Florida with a degree in music education. He went on to obtain a master’s in music education from Indiana University in 1995. He had an accomplished career in music including teaching, accompanying, and leading music worship at various schools, universities, and churches.
On July 15, 1995, Steve married Kendra Morton of Lebanon IN. They remained in Lebanon and raised two children, Alex (20) and Evan (18).
Steve was never without a witty comment and could always bring a smile to his friends and family. He loved watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had an extraordinary talent for music performance and composition. Throughout his career he performed with a wide range of talented musicians including Hall and Oates, Maynard Ferguson and several Walt Disney performers.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his father Dan Whipkey of Clearwater, Florida and his siblings Lee Ann Terpilowski of Clearwater Florida, Jim Whipkey of Houston, Texas, and Scott Whipkey of Houston Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the Zionsville Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s memory to the Boone County Cancer Society or the Lebanon High School Music Boosters Association.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
