Applications are being accepted for two summer youth programs sponsored by Boone REMC and other electric cooperativesthroughout Indiana. “Boone REMC is pleased to support local students through a variety of programs, including a summer camp and a trip to the nation’s capital,” said Mandy Saucerman, Communications Director. “These programs allow us to demonstrate two of our cooperative principles – concern for community; and education, training and information.”  Camp Kilowatt is held at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Indiana. Participants learn about energy and electrical safety while enjoyingtraditional summer camp activities like horseback riding, canoeing, ziplining, archery, and swimming. Current sixth graders whose households receive electricity from Boone REMC are eligible to apply. Camp Kilowattwill be held June 5-8.  Highlights of the eight-day Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. include visits to historic monuments and museums and meeting with Indiana’s congressional delegation on Capitol Hill. Participants experience firsthand how our government functions, learn about the complexities of today’s electric utility industry, and discover the unique characteristics of cooperative businesses. High school juniors whose households receive electricity from Boone REMC are eligible to apply.
