The United States flag flew majestically between the outstretched ladders of firetrucks from Zionsville and Whitestown. It was a beacon from the north side of the Boone County Courthouse for a memorial service honoring peace officers who gave their lives while performing their duties.
Police from all departments, including the Indiana State Police, gathered to remember and to honor. The pomp and circumstance rose to the occasion with an honor guard, bagpipes and buglers. Against a backdrop of deputies and officers, Boone County Deputy Tom Melville and Sheriff Mike Nielsen read the names of four officers and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
