Mrs. Virginia (Pennington) Cochran, 93, of Lebanon, went to be with her Savior Saturday, Jul. 9, 2022, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.
Virginia was born Jun. 5, 1929, in Atterson, KY, a daughter of the late William Chester and Nellie (Cole) Pennington. She married Curtis Hansel Cochran on Jan. 10, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Virginia attended school in Casey County, KY. She worked for Omar Bakery, Thorntown Textile, and eventually retired from Witham Memorial Hospital. Virginia was the oldest member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Jamestown, where she held many positions. She was also a talented seamstress and had made a quilt for every Pastor at the church.
To most, Virginia was lovingly known as Jenny; all that knew her loved her, and she loved them too. She was a faithful prayer warrior and was known for her service to others. Virginia’s family was especially important to her and she left a lasting Legacy for them all.
Survivors are her biggest blessings, including children, Rodney Cochran, Diana Plunkett, Bernetta (Dennis) Puthoff, Debbie Breedlove, Sandy (Mark) Knox, and Kevin (Christian Metzger) Cochran; daughter-in-law, Judy Cochran; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and step-brother, Jay Newsom.
In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by sons, Curtis and Mikeal Cochran; daughter-in-law, Betty Cochran; son-in-law, Mike Plunkett; brothers, Claxton, William, Jesse, Vance, Kirby, Johnny, Clair, Bob, and Little William Pennington; and sister, Phoebe.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, Jul. 14, for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. A funeral service will be held Friday, Jul. 15, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Trent Popplewell officiating in the funeral home. Virginia will be laid to rest at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jamestown Church of God of Prophecy memorial fund, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or Riley Hospital for Children.
