Yolanda Martinez Hawkins, 81, of Lebanon, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 7, 2019. She was born on November 18, 1937 in Dilley Texas; a daughter of the late Guadalupe and Manuela (Longoria) Martinez.

She graduated from Dilley High School in Texas and moved to Lebanon when she was 18 years old. Following high school she took some business courses in Indianapolis.

On October 26, 1957 she was married to John Hawkins at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Lebanon. They enjoyed 61 wonderful years together.

Yolanda worked in various offices in Indianapolis, specializing in bookkeeping and accounting and later worked in Lebanon at the Alton Box Company.

She was always by her husband’s side as they became active in Boy Scouts in 1966, serving over 50 years; earning numerous awards and honors, including the Silver Beaver award.

Yolanda was also an excellent Spanish interpreter and loved translating in the community for state and local law enforcement, the courthouse, probation office, hospitals or wherever there was a need. In 2007 she was presented the Leadership Award from Governor Mitch Daniels for her service with English and Spanish lessons to individuals.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Yolanda was a kind and caring lady who would help anyone in need, and devoted to her family whom she dearly loved and the grandkids were her everything.

Blake Hawkins of Lebanon

In addition to her parents, Yolanda was preceded in death by a brother, Eugenio “Gene” Martinez, and one grandson, Colin Michael Hawkins.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.

Private Family Services will be held prior to visitation. Interment of Ashes will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to your favorite charity of choice.
