The City of Zionsville has been named a 2021 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of their commitment to effective urban forest management. Zionsville achieved the Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: forming a tree board (People of Zionsville for the Aesthetics of Zionsville), having an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, sharing an Arbor Day proclamation and having a tree-care ordinance. This is the 21st year as a Tree City USA. This year Zionsville partnered with IU’s Environmental Resilience Institute (ERI) to conduct a year-long community-wide tree canopy assessment and develop a strategy to maximize the benefits of urban trees.
