Zionsville Police dog Thor, shown with Detective Jacob Shelburne, his first handler, recently passed away after an unexpected medical emergency

After the passing of Thor, the Zionsville Police Department (ZPD) has begun the process of acquiring another K9 officer. ZPD Cpt. Drake Sterling said a new dog can cost from $13,000 to $16,000 and that the department did not budget for a new dog this year because their two dogs were young, and they did not anticipate needing a third.
